Remember that you are not alone. Tell someone that you trust. It could be your parent, teacher, sibling or even a friend. But it must be someone that you know will try to help you.
Try to avoid the bully and where you know he hangs out. Try walking to school with friends, maybe alternate the routes that you take to get there and even change the times that you go.
Avoid challenging the bully. Try to ignore them and walk away.
At school, try to avoid being alone. Stay with your friends or play near the teachers. Try not to be isolated where you can become an easier target.
Don’t react to anything the bully says. Be positive about yourself. Just because the bully tries to put you down doesn’t mean what he or she says is true. Walk away and ignore them.
Remember that you are probably not the only person who is being bullied in your school. Look for other kids in the same situation and try to befriend them. You can all be a support system for each other.
If you feel safe to, try to think of humerous things that you might say to respond to the bully. Tell them that you don’t like the way they talk to you. Tell them that if they continue, you will report them.
If you are on the school bus, try to sit near the bus driver so that he/she can prevent any bullying happening there.
Use humour to difuse the situation. The bully may give up if he/she feels that you aren’t affected by what they say.
Remember that we all are important. You have many good qualities and you need to recognize them. If you feel good about yourself, you are less likely to be targeted by someone else.
